Sunday Lunch
Mum and I went to the Barrasford Arms for lunch today. We met in Tesco car park, it only took about 10 minutes to get up there. i had left half an hour, but was 15 minutes late .. so my timing was impeccable!
I had bid for a Barrasford Sunday Lunch voucher at the Horse Power for Ability fundraiser which we held at Vallum last month. I didnt know Tony Binks, who owns the Barrasford, but when he heard from Ken about our fundraiser he not only donated the voucher, but also came and cooked! He introduced the whole idea of a field kitchen to us. His dishes, which were made on the spot with fresh veg from North Country Organics field at Vallum and Bernard from Bywell Smokery (unit 1 at Vallum), were a great success. Dorothee Debuse's not for profit organisation made over £2,000! We'll never manage that again .. we were amazed .. such a good cause.
Getting back to the point, Ken and Tracy from North Country Organics supply a lot of veg to the Barrasford from their plots at Little Harle and of course Vallum. The kids had carrot and fennel soup (so fresh and full of flavour), all the veg was from little harle. They had really good gluten free rolls - lucky for Millie as i had forgotten her bread!
We sat outside under a sun umbrella .. it was idyllic. didnt fancy being in the dining room on such a lovely day. and phoebe loved pottering about in the garden.
I am not going to go on about the food like the people on the telly because i cant bare it (think marksies advert and things .. trying to be sexy about food) but i will tell you that I had roast beef that was so tender you didnt need a knife to cut it and it was still pink in the middle which i love and Mum had mushroom risotto which she thoroughly enjoyed, we both cant wait to go back. so relaxing.
Peter came back from work tonight with a Vallum Sunday Lunch for us both - i might manage that one tomorrow!
