Come to Vallum and enjoy the produce of land once trod by the Roman auxiliaries who lived in the shadow of Hadrian’s Wall. We farm dairy cattle and crops while our community of artisan growers, smokers, bakers, chefs and ice cream makers stock our Tea Room, Restaurant and Shop. Our local food is raised and grown by us and our Northumbrian neighbours, and depending on the time of day, you may see our producers at work and chefs from all over the country picking their own and placing their orders at the unique Vallum Kitchen Garden. • EAT

The produce of Hadrian’s Wall country is served in our Tea Room and Ice Cream Parlour and at the David Kennedy Restaurant and Shop. Our ice cream is made from the milk of our Brown Swiss cows, and our vegetables are grown on the Vallum Kitchen Garden. Enjoy homemade bread and patisserie, and take home a treat from the shop.

There are few better things than relaxing with a cuppa and a homemade cheese scone on our south-facing deck overlooking the outdoor play paddock. We have a small indoor pre-school play area with space for parents to relax, and gentle wildlife walks where you can spot a variety of nesting birds guided by our information boards.

Cook with former North East Chef of the Year David Kennedy; make ice cream and create your own flavour combinations with Vicky; enjoy wine and cheese tastings with Ginny in the shop; and get your gardening gloves on in the Vallum Kitchen Garden with Ken. Watch our events page (below) for news of all our experiences and events.

Vallum is a growing community of artisan producers who share a passion for traditionally produced food, drink and craft. We treasure the rich history of this magical site, where the Moffitt family has farmed dairy cattle and crops for many years. Now our artisans look forward to sharing the tastes of Vallum country with you.

Enjoy the tastes, sights and sounds of Vallum country with a visit to our award-winning Tea Room and Ice Cream Parlour and the renowned David Kennedy at Vallum Restaurant and Shop. Our visitors enjoy our regular events and food & drink experiences, wandering our wildlife trails, and meeting our artisans at work in our kitchens, workshops and the Vallum Kitchen Garden.

We have been extremely busy here at Vallum.

August seen our very first wedding ceremony held on site! I know..we can’t quite believe it! We have been busy bees indeed. We did however still managed to find time to pop down to River Cottage HQ for the Universal Cookery Food Festival (which we are hosting at Vallum in 2015). Wow what a trip! We came back so inspired and full of ideas. We were given a tour by the lovely Steve Lamb and we are hoping he will soon visit Vallum to see what we are doing up here.

We are really knuckling down now and we are looking forward to an exciting Christmas Market on 22nd November, Burns Night with David Kennedy on 24th January and we are very excited about our new venture The Vallum Pavilion for 2015! Weddings, Corporate Events, Christmas Parties you name it.. we can do it for up to 200 people.

Exciting times ahead, and we hope you will join us and share them.

Hope you all have a great week!

    Best Wishes,

    Team at Vallum xx

We’ve scooped six prestigious Great Taste Awards, including a highest triple gold star, in the annual food industry ‘Oscars’!
The triple gold star award was awarded to a Mediterranean vegetable pie handmade using Vallum produce by Murray Rhind at Vallum Bakery. The pie, which is sold at the Vallum Shop, was described by judges as “a work of vegetarian genius.” Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the UK’s most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and specialist food producers.
Of 10,000 entries, only 153 were awarded the Great Taste 3-star award, which puts Vallum Bakery’s Mediterranean vegetable pie in the top 1.5% of entries nationwide. Vallum Bakery’s spinach and Vallum fine fettle pie, which features Hadrian’s Wall Fine Fettle cheese handmade at the Little Dairy at Vallum, was awarded two gold stars for its “vibrant and moist flavour”, while Vallum Tea Room’s carrot cake was awarded two stars for its “great balance of cream to sponge”. Gold stars were also awarded to Vallum Bakery’s walnut bread, Vallum Tea Room’s savoury mince pie, and Vallum Tea Room’s minestrone with bacon soup. Congratulations to our Tea Room baker Gill Kemp, Tea Room manager Amy Clarke, and Vallum Bakery’s Murray Rhind.
